Prepare for tomorrow,but savor today
SPRING. Soft winds, cool air, bright blue Southern California skies and the scent of freesias spilling into the garden. Calm? No way, life is busier than ever.
This month we look into the back-story of a local company that has been an engine of growth in the Inland Empire for what feels like forever. Writer Will Bigham explores the culture of the Lewis Group of Companies and reports on the four brothers who are running this local empire and the next generation, two of the grandchildren of founders Ralph and Goldy Lewis, who are now vice presidents.
One takeaway: when the economy is in transition, use the moment to strategize, plan and prepare for the next big push because, eventually, it will come.
Melding community profiles and business is our package on social entrepreneurs, led off with an essay from Ira A. Jackson, dean of the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management. Jackson is an ideal candidate to set the tone for these profiles with his MBA from the Harvard Business School and his research co-authoring Profits with Principles: Seven Strategies for Delivering Value with Values.
Don’t forget the fun – we are about lifestyle. Diana Sholley has stopped into My Girlfriend’s Kitchen and found a fun way to put together great meals to cook at home. Gino L. Filippi explores new wine bars in the I.E., including a wine and art spot in downtown Pomona, dba256.
We asked beloved local garden columnist Jack Christensen and some other local experts for ideas on spring color, and we sent Michel Nolan to the spa where she found the green movement is making headway even there. There’s more: decor, golf, health, fitness and wedding ideas. Enjoy and don’t hesitate to send us your suggestions!
