A CLAREMONT SHOWPLACE is ready to be restored to its original grandeur.
A home designed a century ago by renowned architects Charles and Henry Greene — at 807 N. College Ave. — is getting a makeover by HartmanBaldwin design/build.
The company previously completed a less extensive renovation of the Darling-Wright house, plus award winning restorations of two other Claremont landmarks — Pomona College’s Victorian Sumner House and the Claremont McKenna College president’s residence.
Work on the new project will be done in three phases: First: The addition of a three-car garage and study that seamlessly complements the original architecture while accommodating modern-day needs.
Second: Renovation of the kitchen, breakfast room, laundry and bath, living and dining rooms, office and upstairs bedrooms. The goal is to accommodate a modern-day lifestyle while protecting the original architectural integrity of the home.
Third: A true-to-period Arts and Crafts garden with an emphasis on California native plants and trees that includes three pergolas designed to frame the house and provide private patio areas for outdoor entertaining.
